The Rodchenko Art School (Moscow) was founded in 2006. The School is a part of the Multimedia Centre of Actual Arts incorporating the Moscow House of Photography and the Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow and established by the Department of Culture and Education of the City of Moscow.

The main 3-years educational program of the Rodchenko Art School is based on the experience of the leading international photography and art schools such as ICP (New York), ENSP (Arles) and others and is inspired by the Russian Avant-garde Art and Technical schools.

The School aims to provide students with sufficient knowledge in fields of classic and digital photography, video, post-production and editing of images and media, to introduce students to the history and theory of photography, media and contemporary art, to assist students in selecting a field of specialization (documentary, art photography, video art, new media art, sound art, object, sculpture, installation).

The masters and the professors of the School are the leading Russian and international artists, curators and critics – Sergey Bratkov, Aristarkh Chernyshev, Ekaterina Degot, Antonio Geusa, Vladislav Efimov, Roman Minaev, Igor Mukhin, Valeri Nistratov, Kirill Preobrazhensky, David Riff, Mikhail Sidlin, Alexei Shulgin etc. The school also invites Russian and foreign professors and artists to give master-classes, workshops and special courses.

The main educational program of the School is available free of charge for applicants who have passed the necessary admission exams. Every year the School takes in around 40 new students. These are placed under the supervision of 4-6 master curators.

The three-year main program is made up of lectures, seminars and practical classes. At the end of each academic module students present their projects completed under the guidance of a master-curator. The projects are reviewed by the lecturing committee and exhibited.

At the end of the third year students have an opportunity to present their degree projects at the Graduates exhibition in the Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow.

The students and graduates of the Rodchenko Art School regularly participate in Russian and international exhibitions including the Qui Vive? Young Art Biennial (2012), the Bergen Assembly (2013) and the V Moscow Biennial of Contemporary Art (2013) and win prestigious art and photography awards such as the Kandinsky Prize (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014), the ESFF (2012), the Silver Camera Prize (2007, 2008, 2009-2015), the Sotiri prize (2010), the Glocal Rookie Award (2012), World Press Photo (2014) etc.

In recent years the Rodchenko Art School has realized short-term collaborations and residence programs with International Centre of Photography (New York), Fabrics (Italy), Rijksakademie (Netherlands), Vienna Academy of fine arts (Austria), Lodz Film School (Poland) and BerlinDesign-Akademie (Germany). At the present moment the School is looking for consistent partner among the leading art schools.

In addition to the main 3-years program the Rodchenko Art School provides an evening time program of courses that is held on commercial basis and is addressed to listeners of different ages and skills. The courses are assigned to three scales of age – kids (8-11), teenagers (12-15) and adults (16+). The present assortment of the courses includes photography and video editing for beginners, author’s courses on direct, documentary and black-and-white photography, hand-printing, studio lighting etc. The more detailed information is available here.
